Automatic Smoke Detection & Alarm Systems:

Smoke detection and alarm systems are designed and installed to provide early warning of a fire within a building and alert its occupants. These systems generally consist of smoke and/or heat detectors spaced throughout a building, and in some cases these systems are interconnected to a Fire Indication Panel or monitored by an approved automatic fire alarm monitoring service provider, recognised by Fire & Rescue NSW.

Smoke Detection & Alarm Systems Types:

• AS3786 Systems

• AS1670 Systems

• Combined AS3786 & AS1670 Systems

• AS1668 Systems

Available System Types Include The Following:

• Hardwired Systems

• Wireless Systems (Fusion) – use limited to fire engineered solutions for AS3786 systems

• Stand Alone Battery Type Systems

• Addressable / Conventional Systems

• Monitored Systems (See details below)

• VESDA Systems

Available Detector Types Include The Following:

Photo Electric Type Smoke Detectors

• Ionisation Type Smoke Detectors

• Thermal (Heat) Detectors

• Multi Criteria Detectors

Smoke detectors such as smoke alarms respond more rapidly when compared to thermal detectors and are better suited to large open spaces, as smoke does not dissipate as rapidly as heat.

There are two (2) main types of smoke detectors, being “photo electric type” which operates on light, is superior in responding to slow smouldering fires, and are not over sensitive towards cooking nuisance alarms, whilst “ionisation type” which operates on combustion particles, is effective in detecting burning flame fires and are not over sensitive towards nuisance alarms generated from bathroom steam.

However, thermal (heat) detectors are designed to cause alarm when heat from a fire causes a significant change in temperature and are best suited to smaller confined spaces such as floor and ceiling voids and are also used within areas such as kitchens and other similar areas where the use of the area is likely to result in smoke alarms causing spurious alarms. Whilst not commonly used, multi criteria detectors activate on either smoke and/or heat and are used for specialized applications.

EWIS Modules & Building Occupant Warning Systems:

• Sound Systems & Intercom Systems for Emergency Purposes. (Formerly known as EWIS)

• Building Occupant Warning Systems.

Sound Systems & Intercom Systems for Emergency Purposes (AKA EWIS) and Building Occupant Warning Systems are used to warn occupants of the presence of fire or smoke within a building and assist in the prompt evacuation of a building. These systems are interconnected to either fire detection or fire suppression systems to activate automatically.
